Son of Denis and Lottie Amirault of Weaver Settlement, Nova Scotia.

Gunner Resther Joseph Amirault, 2nd Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery. Born on 26 June 1921 in Weaver Settlement, Nova Scotia and died of wounds on 7 August 1943br.
Resther was one of the victims when a Mitchell bomber crashed on the headquarters of the 2nd Field Regiment. The following was recorded in their war diary:
"The 2nd Field Regiment Royal Canadian Artillery reported that at 17.00hrs the Mitchell bomber crashed on Regimental HQ. They suffered 29 casualties including Captain Elliott, Lieutenant Joncas (killed) and Lieuteant MacDonald. The other fatalities were:
- Gunner Joseph Wilfred Attis, born on 4 November 1911 in Moncton, New Brunswick. - Gunner Frank Fidelle Downing, born on 27 January 1908 in Port Elgin, New Brunswick.
- Lieutenant Laurier Joncas, born on 7 November 1920 in Jonquire, Quebec.
- Lance Sergeant Leonard Cheslie Trites, born on 13 October 1910 in Moncton, New Brunswick.
All men died of wounds due to the Mitchell bomber crashing at Regimental HQ on 6 August."
Resther died of wounds in a Field Dressing Station in Agira and was initially buried near the elementary school. He was later buried with his comrades at Agira Canadian War Cemetery. Resther lived in Weaver Settlement with his parents. He had four brothers of whom 2 served in the Canadian Army and three sisters. He enlisted on 30 August 1941 in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
Commemorated on Page 131 of the Second World War Book of RemembranceDisplayed in the Memorial Chamber of the Peace Tower in Ottawa on March 20Resther Joseph Amirault was the son of Denis Leo Amirault (1882-1969) and Lottie (Comeau) Amirault (1882-1962). Two brothers, Joseph Nelson Amirault (1911-1998) and Bernard Amirault also served during WWII. Resther left school at the age of 15 completing grade 9, and worked on the family farm. He also was briefly employed as a labourer at a saw mill in Weymouth, Nova Scotia, prior to his enlistment. He departed Canada for the United Kingdom on March 14, 1942, serving there until April 1943 when he embarked the United Kingdom for service in the Italian Campaign. On August 6, 1943, suffering from wounds, he was admitted to the Field Dressing Station at the 2nd Field Regiment Royal Canadian Artillery Regimental Headquarters in Agira. He died the following day and was initially buried near the elementary school in Agira. In 1944 his remains were reburied in the 22 Agira Canadian War Cemetery, Italy.Resther Joseph Amirault was one of 29 casualties when an American B-25 Mitchell bomber crashed into the 2nd Field Regiment's command post at Agira on August 6, 1943.
