Sapper Joseph Daigle, Royal Canadian Engineers, died of wounds received in action on 22 July 1943.
Joseph served in the 1st Field Company of the RCE. On 20 July 1943 he got wounded in action and was transferred to the Canadian Military Hospital in Valguarnera. It's not known how he got wounded and where, but it must be in the Valguarnera/Dittaino area as the 1st Canadian Infantry Division was clearing the area there. Joseph succumbed of his wounds on the 22nd of July in the elementary school where the hospital was situated. He was buried near the hospital and later reburied at Agira.
Joseph was married in January 1943 with Doris Evelyn Joyce Westfold of Oxted, Surrey, England and they were supposed to live in Geraldton, Ontario. His parents lived in Rogersville, New Brunswick.
