"His parents were Frank and Lillian (Churchill) Bower and his wife's name was Florence J (Deschamp) Bower" His grandparents were Inez Minerva Lent (Findagrave memorial 149634528) and Ephraim Churchill (Findagrave memorial 149634524)From Contributor: (49091897) Lance Corporal Horace Lent Churchill Bower, West Nova Scotia Regiment. Born on 14 January 1919 in Freeport, Nova Scotia and killed in action on 2 August 1943.
Horace was part of D-Company of the West Novas. He was killed during the attack on Monte Criscina. A part of the West Novas war diary gives an insight about the attack:
"08.30: D Coy pushed forward to Monte Crisicina and after advancing about 700 yds met heavy opposition from enemy carefully concealed in the lower ground before Monte Criscina, and having many automatic weapons. Shortly before noon A Coy moved forward farther to the right to assist D Coy, but on reaching high ground about 604923 was pinned down by enemy fire. Fighting continued throughout the day. B Coy directed artillery fire, with good effect, upon enemy positions."
Horace was initially buried near La Rosamarina and later reburied at Agira.
Horace was married to Florence Jeanette Bower from Shelburne, Nova Scotia. His mother lived in Lower Ohio, Nova Scotia with his younger sisters and two younger brothers. Two other brothers served in the Canadian Armed Forces, one with the RCAF in Newfoundland and one with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps in Ontario.
Horace enlisted on the 8th of September 1939 in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. "
