Private William Rodgers Allison, Royal Canadian Regiment. Born on 13 October 1919 in London, Ontario and killed in action on 25 July 1943.
William was killed in action during the battle for Nissoria where the RCR suffered many casualties. The Germans were well dug in in the hills surrounding Nissoria and had a clear view of the approaching Canadians. The objectives were the hills on the east side of town towards Agira. Here the RCR, Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment and 48th Highlanders came under heavy artillery and machine gun fire. According to the war diaries of the RCR the rifle companies suffered 30 men wounded and 15 killed. The casualties of the other battalions were similar, but slightly heavier. It is not known what the initial burial place from William was, but it was most likely near Nissoria where many men from 1st Brigade were buried together.
William lived in London, Ontario with his parents. He had four sisters and four brothers. He enlisted on the 23rd of November 1939 in London and went overseas to England. Here he met Rosemary Mildred Robinson of Itchenor, Sussex. Together they had one son, Roger Kingsley, who was born in 1942 in West Itchenor.
