Son of George and Felitzita Alleman of Chur, Switzerland.
Born: 4 Mar 1895 Chur, Bezirk Plessur, Graubünden, Switzerland
Enlistment:March 14, 1940 Edmonton, Alberta

Private Johann Martin Alleman, Loyal Edmonton Regiment. Born on the 4th of March 1895 in Chur, Switzerland and killed in action on the 3rd of August 1943.
Martin served in the C-Company of the Loyal Eddies and was killed in action north of Regalbuto. The Loyal Eddies had to take a hill which they called Point 736 (named after its altitude) and the attack began at night. It was estimated that about 250 heavily armed Germans were on top of the hill with machine guns and mortars. Several Military Medals were awarded to men who fought bravely.
(source: Loyal Edmonton War Diary) Martin immigrated to Canada in 1921 and after a short stay in British Columbia he moved with his brother Karl (Charlie) to Alberta. Martin lived in Debolt, Alberta and his brother in Millet. Back in Switzerland his other three brothers, three sisters and mother lived. It is most likely that Martin lied about his age to get into the Canadian Army, because on his Attestation Paper he uses the birthyear 1900.
Martin also served in the Swiss Army which was part of his compulsory service. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on the 14th of March 1940 in Edmonton.
Martin was initially buried in a field grave northeast of Regalbuto and later reburied at Agira Canadian War Cemetery.
