Additional Information courtesy of Annemarie Bruseker: Quartermaster-Sergeant Harry Bannon, Loyal Edmonton Regiment, who was killed in Sicily, according to word received by his widow. Surviving with Mrs. Bannon is a three year old child whom Sgt. Bannon had never seen. Sgt. Bannon left for England in 1939, after having lived in Edmonton for many years. He was prominent as a footballer here.

Company Quartermaster Harry Bannon, Loyal Edmonton Regiment. Born on 11 June 1900 in Maryhill, Glasgow, Scotland and killed in action on 3 August 1943.
Harry was killed in action when the Loyal Eddies tried to take Point 736 which was defended by Germans with machine guns and self propelled guns. The Battalion came under heavy artillery fire which caused Harry his life. He was initially buried near a bridge some miles northeast of Regalbuto and later reburied at Agira.
Harry was married to Elizabeth Williamina Bannon and together they had one daughter, Heather, who was born in 1940. Harry's parents had deceased and he had one brother and sister who lived in Wolverhampton, England.
Harry served with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in World War I where he earned a Military Medal. He joined them in 1917. He enlisted with the Loyal Eddies on 8 September 1939 in Edmonton. He went overseas and was also part of Force III which took part in Operation Gauntlet, the Spitsbergen Raid from 3 to 17 August 1941.
