Son of Samuel Tupper Fancy and Annie Isabel Fancy, of Trenton, Nova Scotia.
Born:October 19, 1920 Trenton, Nova Scotia
Enlistment:August 14, 1941 Kentville, Nova Scotia

Private George Charles Fancy was the son of Samuel Tupper Fancy and Annie Isabel (Wier) Fancy. He was one of 6 children born to Samuel and Annie Fancy.
In WWII he served with the West NS Regt, R.C.I.C., service number F/89552. He was killed in action on 21 September 1943 at Sicily, Italy.
Private George Charles Fancy, West Nova Scotia Regiment. Born on the 19th of October 1920 in Trenton, Nova Scotia and died of wounds on the 21st of September 1943.
It was quite a search to find out how George got wounded in action on Sicily as the whole island was in Allied hands in September 1943.
In his military files it is stated that he got wounded in action on the 20th of September due to a fractured skull. He was transported by No 9 Field Ambulance to a Field Dressing Station. Both the West Novas and the No 9 Field Ambulance were in the Potenza area at that time. In "West Novas" by Thomas H. Raddall the following is mentioned:

"Lieutenant D. Kirk's platoon of "B" Company had been placed under command of "A", and three of Kirk's men were seriously injured (one was thrown right over the cab) when their lorry's front wheels dropped into the crater of a blown mine."
George his name is not mentioned here, but this is the only cause which could cause his serious wound(s). He was with the West Novas from the landings on July 10, 1943 until his death on the 21st of September. It is possible that he was brought over to a military hospital in Catania, but this is only guessing.... He was eventually buried at Agira Canadian War Cemetery.
George lived in Trenton, Nova Scotia with his father. His mother had passed away in 1924. He also had three brother and one of them was serving as a Sergeant in Aldershot. George had two sisters too. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on the 14th of August 1941 in Kentville, Nova Scotia.
