Born on the 1st of December 1905 in Hillegom Municipality, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands.
Killed in action on the 12th of July 1943 on the road from Pachino towards Ispica
where with his comrades in arms came under attack from Italian Macchi fighterplanes.

Sergeant Theodorus "Ted" Benedictus Bonefacius Hendrikus Kroon, 1st Division Signals, Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. Born on the 1st of December 1905 in Hillegom, The Netherlands and killed in action on the 12th of July 1943. Ted Kroon disembarked on the SS Black Heron in April 1939 in New York City. He moved to Granton, Ontario where he worked as a farmer. He lived with a friend in London, Ontario before enlisting on the 6th of September 1939. He used to be a Signalman in the Royal Dutch Navy before going to Canada. After his basic training he became a Signalman in the 1st Division Signals. On the 1st of December 1939 he embarked in Halifax to the United Kingdom and was stationed at Aldershot. In 1942 he was promoted to Sergeant. Ted landed on the 10th of July 1943 on the Pachino beaches where his company was of great importance in coordinating the Canadian inland advance. Ted was killed two days later on the Pachino Ispica highway together with Signalmen Robert Quinn, Herman Jinssen (also Dutch), Charles Brown, Milton Quick and Gunner Harold Schultz from the 1st Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery. Below is a summary of the war diary from the Signalmen: "The convoy was driving around 14.45 hrs on the road from Pachino towards Ispica when they came under attack from Italian Macchi fighterplanes. These fighters appeared on low level and attacked the convoy of the 1st Division Signals, RCCS. It was one of the very scarse air raids during the opening days of Operation Husky. The men had to take cover in ditches and behind vehicles, but this resulted in a disaster killing five men of the 1st Division Signals and one Gunner of the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery. Except one they were all buried in a field near the road where they were killed near the road." Later all men were buried on Agira Canadian War Cemetery.
Ted's family lived in German occupied Holland. He had four brothers and four sisters. His mother passed away in 1939.
