Born: 4 Mag 1916, Brockley, London Borough of Lewisham, Greater London, England
Son of Joseph and Ida Burry; husband of Audrey May Burry, of New Toronto, Ontario.

Richard Bury at Camp Borden [1942].

Trooper Richard Arthur Burry, Ontario Regiment. Born on the 4th of May 1916 in Brockley, London, England and died of wounds on the 12th of August 1943.
Richard climbed out of his Sherman near Monte del Casale when German bombers swept the area hitting an ammunition depot. Hundreds of bullets and shells were exploding and men had to take shelter not getting hit. Richard was the unfortunate one being killed and two other of his regiment were wounded. Richard had the misfortune to be the last Canadian to be killed due to enemy action. (source: Operation Husky by Mark Zuehlke)
Richard died of wounds in Scordia where a casualty clearing station was established. He was initially buried there and later reburied at Agira.
Richard married Audrey May Drover of New Toronto (ON) in February 1942. Together they had one daughter, Jacqueline May, who was at that time 1 year old. Richard's brother John also lived in Canada and served in the RCA.
His other brother Robert was also killed in action and served in the British Army. His parents and sister lived in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, England. Richard enlisted in the Canadian Army on the 20th of December 1941 in Toronto and was transferred to the Ontarios in February 1943.
