Private Issie Bell, Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment. Born on 10 October 1918 in Montréal, Québec and died of wounds on 25 July 1943.
Issie got wounded in action east of Nissoria where the Hasty P's had to attack the hills where approximately one battalion of Germans was dug in supported by three Mark III tanks. Several companies came under heavy artillery and machine gun fire and after suffering many casualties the companies had to withdraw. It is most likely that Issie was one of the casualties that day.
He was buried east of Nissoria where more men of the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment were buried.
Issie's parents, one brother and one sister lived in Montréal. His parents were from Russian/Jewish descent. Issie enlisted in the active militia in 1940 with the Victoria Rifles. He officially enlisted on active service on 28 May 1942 in Otter Point, British Columbia. After his basic training he joined the Royal Regiment of Canada and was later transferred to the Hasty P's.
