Lieutenant James Harry Budd, Seaforth Highlanders of Canada, auditor, husband of Zoe Doreen Budd, eldest son of Henry Robert Budd and Ethel Dorothy Binsted, and brother of Joan, was killed in action 21 July 1943 during the combined allied force invasion of Sicily.
Lieutenant James Harry Budd, Seaforth Highlanders of Canada. Born on the 2nd of September 1920 in Vancouver, British Columbia and killed in action on the 21st of July 1943.
James was in the area of Battalion HQ when all of a sudden they came under fire from their own artillery. This killed and mortally wounded several men of the Seaforths. The CO of the Seaforths was in shock, but alright.
Battalion HQ was situated near the place where the Bailey bridge was built under heavy fire by the Royal Canadian Engineers on the road between Leonforte and Assoro. James was buried in the area where he died and was later reburied at Agira.
James was married to Zoe Doreen Caskill and together they lived in Vancouver. James' parents also lived in Vancouver. James officially enlisted on the 3rd of October 1941 in Vancouver, but served before that as a Lieutenant in the Active Militia of the 2nd Battalion of the Seaforths from July 1940.
