Born:April 4, 1919 Vancouver, Greater Vancouver Regional District, British Columbia

Corporal Garth Johnson Carmichael, Seaforth Highlanders of Canada. Born on 4 April 1919 in Vancouver and KIA 21 July 1943.
Garth Johnson was killed in action south of Leonforte when Battalion HQ came under artillery fire from their own guns. Several men from Battalion HQ were killed in action or were severely wounded. Garth was killed instantly. (source: Seaforth Highlanders war diary)
Garth enlisted in the Canadian Army on the 15th of September 1939 in Vancouver. His parents had passed away in 1936 and 1937 and he only had two brothers. His brothers also served in the Canadian Armed Forces. His older brother was a Lieutenant with the Canadian Fuseliers in Tillicum (BC) and his other brother was with the RCAF.
When Garth went overseas to England he met Joyce Ingram O'Farrell from Doxey, Stafford. They married in 1941 and in 1942 they got a son, John Robert. After Garth was killed in action Joyce went overseas to British Columbia with their son. John died in 1953 at the age of 9. Joyce never remarried and passed away in 1993 in Richmond (BC).
