HANN, ARTHUR ALBERT CLIFFORD
T/146921
Royal Army Service Corps
Lance Corporal
who died age 26
on 11st February 1944
Remembered with honour
CATANIA WAR CEMETERY, SICILY
Son of David and Emma Elisabeth Hann, of Romsey, Hampshire.
(family inscription WE SHALL ALWAYS REMEMBER HIM SMILING).
Hann Arthur Albert Clifford arrived in Sicily on 4 September 1943 and he recorded, "Camped under Mount Etna. Working in Siracusa" .
He died sometime after many of the soldiers buried at the cemetery.
The cause of which was due to lack of appropriate medication in illness rather than through enemy action.
He grew up in Romsey, a small town near the south coast of England.
I can tell from his few letters how he missed his home, family and girlfriend.
He got pleasure from sending gifts home to his mother and sister and a box of lemons which must have seemed very exotic to them!
Arthur is commemorated on Romsey War Memorial Park.
