Royal Irish Fusilier, Edward Graham, found by his sons 74 years after his death



Royal Irish Fusilier Edward Graham's grave was finally found by his twin sons last week, more than 74 years after he died in a German ambush near Maletto in August 1943.

Edward and Sydney Graham attended the rededication ceremony for their father at Catania Commonwealth War Grave (CWGC) cemetery on 4th October 2017.
Previously, he was commemorated on the Cassino Memorial and his grave's headstone had been engraved with the words "A soldier of the Second World War".

The rededication, organised by the MoD's Joint Compassionate and Casualty Centre, was attended by the Defence Attache at the UK's Rome Embassy, Lt Col Lindsay MacDuff, and former Commanding Officers of the Royal Irish Rangers, Lt General Sir Phillip Trousdell and Lt Colonel Phillip Baxter.

A delegation from the Royal Irish Regiment including its chaplain, Padre Ivan Linton, a piper and a bugler were in attendance.

Representatives of the town of Piedimonte Etneo also attending the ceremony.

A gathering of like minded people who wished to honour the fallen of Operation Husky the Invasion of Sicily in July 1943. A Ceremony to rededicate and honour Fusilier Edward Graham was attended by his two sons Edward and Sydney. It has take 74 years to uncover the mystery of where he was buried. Edward Graham Junior was determine to discover where his father was buried, with assistance from the IRISH BRIGADE and the MOD, the two brothers have a last paid their respects at their Father's Grave.
