Posted by Robert Woods at 20/12/2011, 14:28:31| My uncle John and the crew he flew with, they were killed on the night of 12th October 1944, en route to drop supplies to Italian partisans the West of Lake Orta in the Italian lakes region. They crashed into the mountains at Valprato Soana in bad weather. 20 planes from a combined 31 and 34 squadrons force were deployed and only 14 returned to base. KG 874, KG 875, KG999, KH154, KH158 and KH239 failed to return. The location of the crash site of KH158 has never been found.— with William Leslie Price, Derek Aubrey Weston Francis, Hubert John Woods, Leonard von Solms Beukes, Charles Lee Foster, Michael Conrad Frederick DuPlooy Kruger and George Frederick Anstee. |
